Where are you located?
The Weinstein Learning Center’s new space is under construction until the Fall 2026 semester. In the meantime, writing drop-ins and appointments are being held in INTC 104, across from Passport Café.
-
What is the difference between a drop-in session and an appointment?
You can come to INTC 104 anytime during drop-in hours to meet with a consultant. Appointments are booked 24 hours to 30 days in advance using the WLC Student Portal.
-
What can I expect when I work with a consultant?
Sessions last anywhere between thirty minutes and an hour. We work one-on-one with students from all majors and levels within the University of Richmond. We also provide feedback at every stage of writing, from developing ideas to polishing grammar.
-
Will you edit my paper?
Our approach to giving feedback is learner-centered. We give you the tools that you need to revise and edit your work, and we guide you as you apply those tools to your writing.
-
Do I need to bring anything to an appointment?
You can provide a draft of your writing if you have it, as well as any assignment instructions, syllabi, and notes that will help your consultant to understand your work. However, you don’t have to have written anything to work with a consultant. We provide feedback at all stages of writing, including brainstorming.
-
When should I meet with a writing consultant?
We encourage students to meet early and often with consultants. The earlier you get feedback, the more you can engage in the writing process.
-
A writing consultant is embedded in one of the classes that I’m taking. How does that work?
Embedded writing consultants provide commentary on drafts and hold individual conferences with students in their assigned courses. Your writing consultant knows your professor’s expectations and is able to provide tailored feedback for assignments in that class. However, you are welcome to work with writing consultants during drop-in hours or on the general appointment schedule if your embedded consultant is not available.
-
How can I become a writing consultant?
The Writing Center hires students who love writing and learning about other students. You can submit your application materials here.
-
I am not a student. Can I meet with a consultant?
Consultations are only for University of Richmond students, but we can refer you to private tutors in the area. We also encourage you to check out our repository of online resources.
