Marco A. Ortiz

Marco A. Ortiz is the Inaugural Executive Director of the Weinstein Learning Center. In this role, Marco leads a team of professional staff and peer educators who provide centralized academic support services for all Spiders. He is passionate about promoting self-efficacy, metacognitive skill building, and life-long learning across the University.

Marco joined the University of Richmond in 2024, bringing over 13 years of leadership experience in developing and managing award-winning academic support services (Think Tank, University of Arizona). His student-centered and collaborative approach is critical in establishing the Weinstein Learning Center as a world-class academic support center. He is the current president of the College Reading & Learning Association and has held other leadership roles surrounding tutor training, learning center management, and peer education. Marco completed his degree in aerospace engineering from the University of Arizona and received his MBA from the W.P. Carey School of Business - Arizona State. He is currently completing his PhD in higher education administration at the University of Arizona.

Being relatively new to Richmond, Marco loves taking the time to explore the city and find new favorite restaurants along the way.
