Laura Vachet

Director, Academic Coaching | Weinstein Learning Center
  • Profile

Laura’s passion for understanding how students learn developed in her first teaching role at the renowned Hill Center of Durham Academy where she taught Spanish to students with learning challenges. At Hill, Laura learned that if you teach to students’ strengths while supporting their challenges, they can accomplish anything through proper training and consistency. Laura continued to elevate student performance and educate faculty on best teaching practices to reach all learners in the Washington DC area before relocating to New England where she served as the inaugural Director of Academic Support at the Bement School in Deerfield, Massachusetts. In this role, Laura developed her academic coaching practice, serving students with learning, socio-emotional, and attention challenges.  Along with providing professional development for faculty, Laura began to bridge the gap between student needs and teaching practices to create more inclusive classrooms, allowing opportunities for high achievement for all students.

In Laura’s most recent role, she served as the inaugural Director for the Center for Academic Success at Williston Northampton School, a college preparatory boarding school in Easthampton, Massachusetts. She developed curriculum and instructed courses on executive function and ran an evening study lab providing strategies for time management, motivation and organization. Laura also served as the Director of Academic Support, which involved extensive work reviewing neuropsychological assessments and creating educational plans.

As the inaugural Director of Academic Coaching at the Weinstein Learning Center, Laura desires to create an atmosphere that normalizes support. Laura will not only support students in reaching personal academic goals, but she will also encourage the development of lifelong learning systems.

Laura was born and raised in Richmond, Virginia and is excited about the return to her hometown to serve students in the Spider community.
