Dr. John L. Boyd

As Director of Speech Support at the Weinstein Learning Center, Dr. John Boyd leads a cohort of skilled Peer Speech Consultants, develops and implements innovative student-centered programming, and promotes effective public speaking and communication pedagogy across campus. He brings over twenty years of experience to the position as an academic success coach, instructor, and director of academic support centers. Previously, as a college writing center director, he designed and implemented speech support and embedded tutoring programs as a means of promoting student engagement and leadership.
John holds a Ph.D. in Composition and TESOL from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. His professional interests include writing, speech, and communication pedagogy, as well as theories of student development and peer-based learning. He has taught courses in English, education, and First-Year Seminar programs, and he is dedicated to helping students build confidence and achieve success through their communication skills both inside and outside of the classroom.
